Effects of 12-week full body resistance exercise on vertical jumping with and without military equipment in Slovenian Armed Forces

Military families: the impacts of having a first child during service on military mothers
Conclusions This study provided insight into the impacts of having a first child during military service on servicewomen. Overall, female Army veterans who had their first child during service had poorer outcomes, including leaving service non-voluntarily. However, none of the health or well-being outcomes remained significant after adjusting the results. This study explored a widely under researched population and field of research. Future research should seek to expand on our findings and continue to explore the impacts of having a first child during military service for military mothers.

Reflex syncope in the UK Armed Forces
Conclusions These data are the first to define the incidence and prevalence of syncope in the UKAF. Orthostasis and heat are probable triggers, although recruits are potentially protected. These data offer opportunities to improve the health and well-being of SP, with economic, logistical and reputational benefits for the UKAF. Further research to identify personnel at risk of future syncopal events may allow for targeted use of countermeasures.

Non-criteria autoantibodies in antiphospholipid syndrome may be associated with underlying disease activity
ConclusionSystemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most commonly associated disease with APS, being present in approximately 35% of cases  [1]. Since the majority of the patient group in our study had APS that was secondary to SLE, non-criteria antibody positivity may be linked to the immunological activity of SLE. Large multicenter studies are necessary to investigate the clinical significance of isolated/combined positivity for criterion/non-criteria aPLs.

Medical Misnomers are Murky: Time to Memorialize and Rename
Misnomers have dogged medical practice seemingly since its inception. They may arise out of initial misunderstanding of the underlying disease process, a fanciful personification of the disease itself, or simple confusion encountered early in the disease's discovery. Misnomers are not harmless. By increasing unneeded complexity, they add to challenges in medical education without increasing understanding. Practicing clinicians may experience difficulties in communicating with patients. For example, a diagnosis of “ringworm” may be made but the patient may not understand why an antiparasitic is not being prescribed, req...
